Outdoors
Falconry, one of the oldest-known hunting sports, captured the attention of Caleb Lawrence when he was only 10 years old. The Meigs resident learned to trap, train and hunt with a raptor over the next couple of years. At age 12, he became the youngest licensed falconer in Georgia, and he is one of only about 200 in the state. Caleb, now 13, had an interest in birds even younger, studying bird encyclopedias and recalling information about birds from field guides.
Arts
The Creative District in historic Thomasville is home to Thomasville Center for the Arts’ installation, “My Side of the Story,” featuring multiple public art displays of one-of-a-kind quilts in all shapes and forms. More than 85 works of art, including quilts, quilt images, and homage to quilt pioneers, will be showcased, along with historic quilt collections from the Jack Hadley Black History Museum and the Thomasville History Center. The launch leads up to the center’s Due South fundraiser and continues through the 105th Rose Show and Festival.

For someone who discovered a love for hunting as an adult, 33-year-old Ethan Galloway has built a reputation quickly as one of the most sought-after dog trainers in the Red Hills. Born and raised in Tallahassee, Florida, he grew up near some of the most renowned hunting land in the country. His first full-time foray into the outdoor world, though, was when he got a job with a fencing company that did work on hunting plantations close to home. He soon realized his passion was working with the dogs.
