Celebrating 100 Years
One hundred years ago, John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital opened in Thomasville. John F. “Jack” Archbold donated $1.5 million to build John D. Archbold Memorial Hospital in memory of his father in 1923. Archbold was the owner of Chinquapin Plantation and a frequent visitor to Thomasville, and his gift was the first in a century-long tradition of fervent community support of healthcare in South Georgia.
All the Buzz
Dale Richter has made an entire life around bees and even took his interest all the way to the Georgia capitol. At just five years old, he began helping his grandfather with his honeybees in Dougherty County. As a young kid, Richter was passionate about bees and grew up guest-lecturing classes about his work. Today, The Buzz Fuzz provides bee removal that’s safe for both the residents and the bees.
Let’s Go Outside
It doesn’t take long before winter slips away like a bad dream and spring teases us to get outdoors. Georgia State Parks can fill that need to feel the sun on our faces once more—and provide a nice variety of environments for sweet dreams as well. From the coast to the mountains, from the mill ruins of Sweetwater Creek to the geological wonders of Amicalola Falls, Georgia State Parks offer a variety of camping experiences.
